In mid-July news broke that Taylor Swift’s father, Scott, was recovery from major surgery he underwent in June.
Swift’s representative confirmed that the billionaire musician’s father had a quintuple bypass surgery just over a month ago. Swift, her brother, Austin, and her mother, Andrea, were reportedly by his side during the surgery and recovery process.
“The procedure occurred after Scott went in for a check-up and his doctor noticed something that led to the operation. The procedure was not the result of a heart attack,” People reported at the time.
Swift Breaks Her Silence on the Surgery
During her first ever appearance on boyfriend Travis Kelce’s podcast New Heights, Swift spoke about the “really intense” surgery for the first time revealing her father “is doing incredibly well.”
The 73-year-old learned he had five blockages during a routine medical checkup and was told, “We’ve gotta do this tomorrow. We don’t know how you walked in here, dude. This is crazy.”
“He’s had a perfect (electrocardiogram) every year that he’s gone in for physicals. But what found his five hard blockages in his heart was a resting stress test,” Swift explained.
“So he’s been telling all his friends, ‘You need to get the stress test,’ because that’s what’s actually preventative. If you can find that earlier, you don’t have to have a bypass surgery. You can sort out those blockages with stents and things that are a lot less invasive.”
Scott’s Epic Response to Swift
In true dad fashion, Swift didn’t initially want to tell his children, the 14-time Grammy winner and brother Austin, about the surgery.
“You guys are busy; I don’t want you guys to have to come in here. You and (brother) Austin are busy,” she remembered him saying before she mockingly said: “So I was like, ‘OK, I’m not going to come there, all right.'”
After waking up from general anesthesia, he already had a few dad jokes at the ready.
“I was like, ‘Dad, you had a quintuple bypass. You had five (blockages). That’s crazy. That’s more than we’d thought,'” Swift told her father. “And he was like, ‘You see, I come from a very competitive family.”
