Since her early years on Friends, Jennifer Aniston has always been known for her blonde hair. In an interview for Vanity Fair‘s “Rewatch” video, Aniston revealed she fought hard to have a brunette wig in the 2011 movie Horrible Bosses.
“I fought for that wig, by the way. That was not an easy battle,” said Aniston. “I wanted [my character] to look different. The argument from the studio, and I am sorry to call you out, was that, ‘We’re just afraid it won’t look like you.’ And I said, ‘That’s kind of the point!’ I still think it might look a little bit like me. But I’m glad I fought for it and stuck to my guns.”
In the R-rated comedy movie, Aniston plays the role of Dr. Julia Harris, one of the three horrible bosses of the main characters. Aniston reprised her role for Horrible Bosses 2.
Looking back at her career, Aniston has almost always kept her blonde hair, and it’s become something she’s known for. From Marley and Me, Bruce Almighty, We’re The Millers, to Adam Sandler’s Murder Mystery, Aniston’s hair has relatively stayed the same.
She reveals that Horrible Bosses was not only a chance to change her appearance from what fans are used to, but also her overall image as an actress.
Starring in the movies allowed her to move away from the “girl next door” archetype she has built a majority of her career on.
“I was always, sort of, seen as a girl next door, you know, the ingenuine,” explained Aniston. “It was really fun to play somebody like this because it’s so far away from anything that I am. And I think that’s what the director liked — this is so not what you would expect from this gal. That was the fun of it. I think that’s what made it more creatively exciting for me obviously.”
Aniston currently stars on The Morning Show with Reese Witherspoon.
