Josko Gvardiol and Savinho will miss Manchester City’s Premier League opener this weekend, but Rodri could still feature.

Pep Guardiola takes his team to Molineux to face Wolves on Saturday evening as they get their league campaign underway.

New signings Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki and Tijani Reijnders are all expected to be involved.

Rodri and Phil Foden could still play, although are doubts, while Gvardiol, Savinho and Mateo Kovacic are all out.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference, Guardiola said: ‘Kovacic is not ready, Josko not ready.

‘The other ones are ready. We travel and tomorrow we make the selection. Rodri is travelling and Phil as well and tomorrow we decide.’

He added: ‘Savinho’s injured. He’s injured from Palermo, a few weeks he will be out.’

The manager said that key midfielder Rodri is ready to play, but only a limited amount of time and he intends to ease the midfielder back to full fitness.

‘He’s so soon to coming back, but what is important is his knee is perfect!’ Guardiola said. ‘Now he needs to bring minutes in training sessions, and if possible in the games.

‘What we want is he doesn’t come back and takes a step back. That would be not good because you have a dynamic where you cannot get your rhythm. He made already good training sessions and tomorrow he will travel and we will decide if he plays a few minutes or not.’

Rodri missed the vast majority of last season due to a serious knee injury, making just three Premier League appearances.

With Savinho not involved, it is possible he has played his last game for Manchester City, amid interest from Tottenham.

Guardiola says he wants to keep the Brazilian winger, but if he wants to leave then he will not stand in his way.

‘Whether it’s Tottenham in that case or any other club, a player should call the club,’ said Guardiola. ‘I am only concerned right now that Savinho will be with us for the rest of the season and hopefully many years because at 21 with the potential he has he has to improve in final positions but he is an extraordinary player.

‘Otherwise, he would not have played more than 3,000 minutes last season. At the end, as always, the desire of the players is above everything but then they have to find an agreement with the club.

‘If they don’t take an agreement, the player will be here because the club spends money on those players.’
