Illinois-based Oberweis Ice Cream & Dairy is making its first big move in years, opening a new scoop shop in Winnetka, Illinois later this month. It will be the company’s first new location in five years, and the inaugural store under new parent company, Hoffmann Oberweis Dairy, LLC, with plans to open more than a dozen shops over the next two years in Illinois, Missouri, and Florida.
“We chose Winnetka for our first new opening in five years because it’s a family-centered community, and ice cream simply tastes better when shared with family,” said Adam Kraber, President and CEO of Hoffmann Oberweis Dairy.

Ice Cream Parlor Reimagined
The Winnetka store is more than just another Oberweis outpost. It’s a reimagined ice cream experience. Building on the nearly 100 years of Oberweis history and tradition, the new store is a nod to the classic ice cream parlors of yesteryear, blending a warm color palette with the brand’s signature red and white stripes. The shop will feature a new full-service counter where, for the first time, customers can watch as their ice cream is scooped.
“We’re reintroducing beloved elements like the chessboards and our signature red and white colors, while also adding exciting new touches, including…a waffle cone installation, and elegant black and gold accents that give the space a refined, modern feel,” said Kraber.
100 Scoops of Summer Celebration
Oberweis is tying the grand opening of the Winnetka shop into its current 100 Scoops of Summer promotion, a season-long campaign across all stores featuring community events, giveaways, specials, and themed menu days. Some highlights include:
- Scoop Stakes – Monthly winners at each store will receive free ice cream for a year, with a grand prize of 100 scoops.
- Sundae Mondays – Free scoops for the first 20 children under ten with an adult purchase every Monday through Labor Day.
- Countdown to Summer’s End (August 18-22) – Daily deals like $1 kids’ cones, BOGO scoops, and $5 off purchases over $25

A New Era for Old Time Favorite
Located at 510 Winnetka Avenue, the new scoop shop officially opens mid-August. The grand opening will kick off with free scoops, flavor samples, and a chance to explore the updated design. With more planned openings on the way, Oberweis is aiming to bring its premium ice cream, along with a strong sense of tradition, to even more communities. Because, as Adam Kraber believes: “Ice cream should be fun,” and allow people a chance to “take a joyful pause in their day.”
