Mat Stevenson, a star from Home and Away, has revealed he was drugged and raped by two men when he was 18.
The star, who is now 56, played Adam Cameron in the Australian soap from 1989-1994.
In a recent interview, Mat opened up about the life-changing ordeal.
The actor revealed that the assault occurred after attending a business presentation about becoming a real estate agent.
He states that after the event, he was offered a drink by a prospective mentor, but ‘became dizzy’ immediately after.
‘This other bloke [then] came out of nowhere’, he said in his interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.
‘I was paralysed. I was a strong young kid, I was a good sportsman, but I was paralysed.’
Mat says that the two men then raped him.
The actor woke up the next day in the same room, but no-one was around.
‘I was in a fair bit of pain’, he continued.
‘I was late for work. I told my dad, I said, “I think I’ve just been raped”, and he ignored it.’
A day after the assault, Mat was given the news he had been cast in Neighbours, but he ultimately became best known for his role in Home and Away.
Away from soapland, Mat has also featured in Blue Heelers, City Homicide and Offspring, and the film A Small Punch in a Little Town.
In 2019, Mat said that life in the acting industry changed for him when he fell in love.
‘After I left Home and Away, I travelled for three years and when I came back, I was 27’, he told The Daily Telegraph.
‘I met a woman that I loved and we wanted a family. And with that comes responsibility so I sought out some secure work and that’s the government role I have been working in ever since.’
Mat’s Home and Away character Adam Cameron was the only child of Ian and Bridget. When he arrived in Summer Bay, both of his parents had died.

As a result, he inherited their estate, but spent quite a bit of their money by buying a yacht.
Adam’s plan was to sail around the world in it but once he had moored in Summer Bay, his yacht was no more, and Adam was left to stay in the town.
The character departed Summer Bay when he was transferred to another Bonza Burger chain.
