Despite winning, Drag Race’s Ginger Minj says she was at ‘a disadvantage’ on All Stars 10

Ginger Minj should be very proud of herself for winning All Stars 10 – because the tournament of All Stars was one of the most competitive and brutal seasons of Drag Race we’ve seen in literally forever. I hope she is proud because every win should be special to the queen who takes the crown, but it would be amiss to claim anything other than the fact that Ginger Minj winning All Stars 10 of Drag Race was extremely controversial. I actually cannot remember the last time a queen won Drag Race where the decision was so divided – not just by fans but by queens from the franchise calling it out. Now, despite the fact Ginger Minj has competed on the show four times and now won, she has just said in a new interview that she was at “a complete disadvantage” competing on Drag Race All Stars 10. Here’s why.

‘I had to pull out all the stops’

Speaking in a new interview with Pride.com, Ginger Minj insisted she was at “a complete disadvantage” compared to the other queens in her season when she competed on Drag Race All Stars 1o. She was asked to address the allegations of favouritism from production when competing on the show, both from fans and from her fellow alumni queens.

“From the moment I was announced on the cast, there were people who created the narrative for themselves that it was favouritism and it was rigged towards me.” Ginger explained: “I felt the complete opposite going in. I felt like I was at a complete disadvantage. I had to pull out all the stops.”

She continued by saying “I don’t think that ten years and four seasons later, favouritism would certainly start out of nowhere for me. It’s just so wild for me to hear that from other people. My win has caused so much controversy. Any art that deserves to be taken seriously is subjective and should elicit a strong reaction.”

Ginger Minj has got to the final on season seven of Drag Race and on All Stars 6 (she left relatively early on All Stars 2) – and has previously addressed allegations of production favouriting her by saying those who hate on it have “built the narrative themselves”.

Jorgeous, who lost the crown to Ginger Minj in the final lip sync said she felt “hollow” after finishing in second place.
