This past weekend marked a first for WWE since the company acquired the lucha libre promotion AAA, with TripleMania XXXIII amassing more than 4.3 million views in its first 24 hours, according to Variety.
The event was live-streamed on both WWE and AAA’s YouTube channels in both English and Spanish for fans. They pulled 208 million views across both platforms concerning the event.
Not only did the event break viewership and attendance records, but it also led to a first in sales for the arena where TripleMania XXXIII was held.
Taking place in the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, the event also brought in 19,691 fans to the arena, marking the biggest lucha libre event of the year so far. In return, it led to breaking an all-time AAA gate record and merchandise sales.
The acquisition of AAA has certainly paid off for WWE, with the event bringing together WWE superstars and some of the lucha libre’s most popular wrestlers.
The biggest match of the night was seeing WWE’s Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano (also known as Chad Gable) be defeated by luchador El Hijo del Vikingo to retain his AAA Mega Championship.
TripleMania XXXIII also had Pagano and Psycho Clown triumph over Angelo and Berto to capture the AAA Tag Team Championship, while El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. defeated El Mesias to claim the Latin American Championship.
The event also included a Copa Bradahl battle royale, where multiple wrestlers fought in the ring for a chance to win. It created a memorable moment for fans when 7’3″ wrestler Omos faced off against 3’3″ luchador Microman, leading to Omos’s victory in the match and taking home the trophy.
WWE announced the initial acquisition of AAA in April 2025 during a pre-show of Wrestlemania 41. They officially acquired AAA through the entertainment holding company Filip at the start of August 2025. AAA has been the home of some of wrestling’s most well-known stars, like Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero.
