Former College Football Player Killed in Tragic Car Crash

A former Division I offensive lineman was killed Saturday night when he lost control of the car he was driving and crashed into a farm field.

Bailey Lenney, 27, who played for Alabama A&M University during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, died from injuries suffered after his car flipped over multiple times and he was ejected from the vehicle.

At around 8 p.m. Saturday, Lenney was driving eastbound on Marshall Mill Road in his Gloucester County, New Jersey hometown of Franklin Township. He lost control when his car entered a bend in the road.

Lenney’s vehicle overturned several times and the Delsea Regional High School alum was ejected through the sunroof, according to NJ.com. He was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he was eventually pronounced dead.

A GoFundMe has been organized for Lenney’s family

A family friend of Lena Jester, Lenney’s mother, started a GoFundMe to help raise money for funeral expenses.

The biography for the page called Lenney “a bright light in our lives.”

“He was known for his kind heart, his laughter, charming wit and the way he always cared for others,” the bio reads. “He had an incredible personality that brought others together, and was amazing with kids. He was to be a first time uncle in just 5 shorts weeks, looking forward to meeting his nephew, as his sister Jenna is expecting her first baby. He was best friends with his younger sister Tori, who was home making him dinner when the family received the worst news possible.”

Thus far, the GoFundMe has brought in nearly $8,800 toward its ultimate $30,000 goal.

Lenney was a one-time football star

After a stellar career at Delsea Regional in South Jersey, Lenney was originally signed to compete at Lock Haven University. However, he eventually made his way to compete at the Division I FCS level at Alabama A&M.

After cracking the team’s two-deep as a freshman in 2017, the 6-foot-3, 300-pound Lenney appeared in 10 games in 2018, making several starts
