‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Actor’s Hilarious Review Snub for Cut Vanessa Kirby Scene

Apparently, even actors in the year’s most popular Marvel movie can have their own personal reasons for knocking their review of the film down a few pegs. This stood true for Fantastic Four: First Steps actor Paul Walter Hauser, who portrayed the villain Mole Man in the popular movie.

While Hauser’s review of Fantastic Four: First Steps included plenty of praise, the actor had a hilarious reason for dropping a surprising score on Letterboxd, the popular social film review website.

“I love the score, the production design, the performances. I wish they hadn’t cut my scene with Vanessa Kirby, but I’m stoked that I got to be in a Marvel movie (first world problem s—; I’m spoiled rotten to get to act). Excited to follow the Franklin story!!! #FantasticFive,” the actor wrote.

Well, you have to appreciate the honesty, at least. It was surely a bit of light-hearted fun from the actor, who also joined the cast of Liam Neeson’s The Naked Gun, which debuted just one week after Fantastic Four.

‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Earns High Ratings From Critics and Fans

Although the Fantastic Four: First Steps actor knocked his rating down a point and a half on the five-star scale, the reviews from critics and fans have largely remained positive across most review sites.

This includes Rotten Tomatoes, where the movie is labeled both “certified fresh” and “verified hot.” It boasts an 86 percent critics’ rating based on 384 reviews, along with a 91 percent fan-score with more than 10,000 verified reviews.

Fantastic Four: First Steps has been Marvel’s highest earner of 2025 at the box office, pulling in $468 million worldwide and $247 million domestically, just ahead of Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*, as Box Office Mojo highlighted.

However, as impressive as the ratings were and the solid box office pull, one noteworthy talking point among fans remained the emergence of DC Studios’ Superman, which outperformed all three Marvel films.
