Phil Sims is returning home.
The New York Giants legend will find himself back in the booth this football season as a college football analyst for NBC, the network announced on Tuesday.
Simms, a two-time Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl XXI MVP, made his NBC broadcast debut in 1995 calling NFL games. In his new role, Simms will be a game analyst on multiple Big Ten football games exclusively on Peacock this fall.
When is Phil Simms’ first game?
His first game is just around the corner. NBC Sports announced he’ll call the season-opener on Aug. 29, when Illinois takes on Western Illinois, with the game streaming exclusively on Peacock.
The following weekend, the network announced, Simms will call Miami (OH) at Rutgers, also on Peacock. Simms is slated to call a third game this season, and that game will be announced at a later date.
For the first two games, Simms will be partnered with play-by-play announcer Paul Burmeister.

Who is Phil Simms?
Simms is a familiar face to all football fans, past and present. He was the Giants’ 7th overall pick in the 1979 NFL Draft out of Morehead State. He went on to lead the Giants to two Super Bowl wins in his 14 seasons with the team.
After beginning his career at NBC in 1998, Simms moved over to CBS Sports, where he had the distinction of covering the Olympics and serving as a sideline reporter. He made his mark in 1998 as the lead NFL analyst alongside Greg Gumbel and Jim Nantz. Simms, however, lost the job in 2017 when Tony Romo replaced him, a move that relegated Simms to a studio chair.
When did Phil Simms leave CBS Sports?
Simms left the network after the 2023 season when CBS Sports did not renew his contract. He’s recently been a familiar voice on various radio shows, but soon he’ll be back in front of a camera doing what he does best.
The cherry on top?
Simms, 69, is now colleagues with his son, Chris, who has a role on the network’s Football Night in America studio show. Chris will also call multiple Big Ten games this season.
