Will John Cena’s ‘Peacemaker’ Get His Own Film? James Gunn Responds

John Cena’s Peacemaker is a hit on HBO, but will the superhero get his own movie?

“I actually know the answer to that question,” series director and DC Studios boss James Gunn said. “And I am not at liberty to say under penalty of the Safran punishment, which is a loss of my knuckle. Every time I give away something, Peter Safran will take away another joint of my finger. It’s very painful. He uses a cigar cutter.”

Cena, 48, who recently revealed his plans to retire from professional wrestling, portrays the titular character of the HBO series. He first appeared as Chris Smith in Gunn’s 2021 film, Suicide Squad. Gunn reportedly wrote the script for the series while filming the movie.

“James Gunn has the unique ability to create an expansive universe while also bringing to life the soul and wit of each character. We look forward to a deep dive into the world of Peacemaker,” Casey Bloys said at the time.

With season 2 set to premiere on August 21, Gunn is keeping the final episodes under lock and key.

The director admitted the final three episodes might be his “favorite things I’ve ever done, of all time.”

“It could mean one of two things. It could mean [the last three episodes] are terrible, or it could mean that there’s a lot of major twists and turns in the last three episodes,” he told Phase Hero’s Brandon Davis of the secrecy surrounding the season finale. “I really don’t want what’s in those last three episodes to be spoiled, so I’m keeping them close to the chest. I won’t even let my publicist see them.”
