Teacher Goes Viral for Song About ‘Private Parts’

A teacher in Africa has gone viral after posting a video showing in which she sang a song about “private parts” to her class of first graders.

Gelda Waterboer, who teaches at Namibia’s Rogate Primary School, posted a video which has since racked up nearly 100 million views. In the video, Waterboer, who frequently posts videos from her classroom, sings her students a precautionary song about their “private parts.”

“These are my private parts, private parts, private parts, these are my private parts no-one should touch them, no-one should see them,” she sang as she motioned to her crotch and rear.

“And if you touch my private parts, private parts, I will tell my mother, I will tell my father, I will tell my teacher,” she sang as her students joined in.

Many praised Waterboer for her forthrightness in teaching her young students how to speak out against and prevent harassment. “Yes. Louder! Teaching kids to not be shy about this is so important,” one commenter wrote.

However, some felt that the teacher’s approach was too aggressive. Waterboer posted a follow-up video in which she explained that “teaching our children to say ‘no’ is not just about manners—it’s about protection.

She concluded: “Every child must know that their body belongs to them, and no one has the right to touch them in a way that feels wrong or uncomfortable. It is our responsibility as adults, parents, and educators to create a safe space where children feel confident to speak up.”
