Why Mark Hamill Turned Down a Body Horror Role in Disgust

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill drew the line when he was asked to star in one of body horror’s most squeamish and grotesque movies: The Human Centipede 2.

“Someone said, ‘They want you to be in The Human Centipede Part 2.’ And I said, ‘What’s The Human Centipede?'” recalled the 72-year-old actor in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“They explained the premise to me, and I went, ‘Oh my God! Thank you for putting those images in my head, and I’ll never forgive you for doing so.’ But that was an easy one. I said, ‘No, don’t send the script.’ The premise alone — I’ll never see one, and I really resent the fact that some human being thought of that concept of sewing people together, mouth to anus. Goodbye, and never enter my life again,” he explained.

The Human Centipede 2 is a follow-up sequel to Tom Six’s 2009 movie, The Human Centipede, that gained attention for its graphic depictions of violence and body horror.

The movie follows a depraved mama’s boy who becomes fascinated with the “human centipede” experiment depicted in the first movie of a German surgeon surgically sewing together his victims from mouth to buttocks. His fascination leads him on a killing spree to recreate the project.

The Star Wars actor doesn’t comment on what role he was offered for the sequel movie.

Hamill has always been open about his dislike of horror, recounting how one of the Saw producers is unable to watch his own movie.

“He produces them and gets all the profits, but he just can’t stomach watching them. I think that’s really funny, ’cause me, I saw a premise in the trailer, I go, ‘Okay, thank you. Very good. Not for me.'”

Hamill stars in the upcoming dystopian movie The Long Walk, based on the Stephen King novel.
