Look, we all loved Anthony Bourdain, the cinematic badass who went globe-trotting and made eating offal seem epic. But what if you’re exactly like that, except you’re terrified of everything? Enter Phil Rosenthal, the creator of Everybody Loves Raymond, who pitched a travel food show to PBS with one line: “I’m exactly like Anthony Bourdain—if he was afraid of everything.”
“I have this idea for this food and travel show,” Rosenthal said of pitching the network the show in a recent episode of Jennie Garth’s podcast, I Choose Me. “They looked at me like I was crazy.”
That’s when he delivered the one-line pitch. That joke killed and PBS green-lit I’ll Have What Phil’s Having, six episodes of Phil bumbling through the world with his trademark warmth, awkward charm, and a never-ending sense of wonder.
Fast forward, Netflix picked up his energy and turned it into Somebody Feed Phil. Now one of the streamer’s longest-running unscripted hits, it’s out with Season 8 (premiering June 18, 2025), and Phil’s still eating his way through the globe, this time in spots like Amsterdam, Tbilisi, Manila, and Boston.
So forget Fear Factor. Somebody Feed Phil isn’t about conquering mountains or eating exotic organs. It’s about stepping out of your comfort zone with humor, heart, and maybe a side of stroopwafel or pintxos. Season 8 even brings cameos from Ray Romano, Brad Garrett, and Bridgerton star Claudia Jessie, along with Phil’s ever-relatable brand of dad-joke charm.
If you’re a dude who eats, laughs, and appreciates someone who’s not afraid to order something weird on the menu, this show is for you. It’s your buddy who’s down for an adventure…as long as you promise to hold his hand when the bug skewer hits the table.
