The boxer and social media influencer will face the most impressive competition of his career.
Jake Paul’s road to the sport was anything but conventional, but like it or not, the former social media influencer is one of boxing’s biggest stars. Paul has hardly been challenged early in his professional career, fighting athletes coming from other sports or in the case of Mike Tyson and Anderson Silva, well past their primes.
Paul’s fight against Mike Tyson last November was a massive success for Netflix, and his next bout is set to be streamed on the platform. Paul has already agreed to a matchup with his next opponent, and some believe it’s going to be the biggest challenge of his boxing career.
Who Is Jake Paul Fighting Next?
According to ESPN, Jake Paul’s next fight will be an exhibition bout against Gervonta “Tank” Davis.
Davis, a Baltimore native, has never lost in his career. The current WBA lightweight champion has a record of 30-0-1, with one draw against Lamont Roach Jr. earlier this year. During his career, Davis has defeated top challengers like Ryan Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz and Rolly Romero.
He’s known for his devastating, highlight-reel knockout power – demonstrated in fights like the Garcia bout when he dropped his opponent with a nasty shot to the body.
Paul vs. Davis will take place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on November 14, and the fight will be streamed live on Netflix.
“The original timeline assumed that ‘Tank’ would be fighting Jake [Paul] after he fought Roach,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Paul’s “Most Valuable Promotions.”
“The outcome didn’t necessarily change anything per se, but our timeline of waiting around to see what Davis was going to do resulted in Jake fighting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.”
What Are the Rules for The Fight?
As Bidarian mentioned, Paul fought and defeated Chavez Jr. by unanimous decision in Anaheim earlier this summer. Some reports suggested that Paul would take on ex-heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in his next fight, but Bidarian says that was never seriously considered for 2025. The Joshua bout is still on the table, however, and could happen after the fight against Davis.
An agreed-upon weight for both fighters has yet to be determined. Paul was nearly 200 pounds for his fight against Chavez, while Davis weighed in at just under 134 pounds for the fight against Roach.
“We’re still figuring that out,” Bidarian said about the matter of weight.
“Jake will definitely have to come down below his 200-pound weight that he’s been fighting at. I can tell you that we’re going to have a fight that will have a definitive outcome, whether by way of knockout or decision.”
Given each fighter’s history, Bidarian’s prediction seems likely to come true. Davis has won 28 of his 31 career fights by knockout, and Paul has won seven of his 13 bouts by the same method.
