Glen Powell Announces His Final Decision On Playing ‘James Bond’

Glen Powell’s rise to prominence as one of Hollywood’s leading men is coming at an interesting time. He’s appeared in several top films with great directors and cast members, but he seems to be missing the iconic role that could define his career.

For Tom Cruise, it was Ethan Hunt in the “Mission: Impossible” movies. For Matt Damon, it was Jason Bourne. For many other actors, it’s been James Bond.

Britain’s most famous spy has been portrayed by a number of actors on screen over the years, with Daniel Craig being the most recent. There hasn’t been a “Bond” film since 2021’s “No Time to Die,” which killed Craig’s version of the character.

Reboots have been discussed, and Powell has been a name some have considered as a possible option. No definitive decisions have been made about the future of the role, but Powell is weighing in amid the speculation.

What Does Glen Powell Think of The Role?

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Powell explained that he’s flattered by the suggestion, but that he thinks he’s missing one important ingredient to become a great James Bond.

“I’m Texan. A Texan should not play James Bond,” Powell said, promoting his upcoming series “Chad Powers.”

“My family and I joke around, I can play Jimmy Bond, but I should not be playing James Bond. Get an authentic Brit for that job. That’s who belongs in that tuxedo.”

For now, Powell has a number of projects coming up, including a remake of 1987’s “The Running Man.” The actor will star alongside William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Josh Brolin and others in the film, which sees a contestant attempt to escape a bounty and win a futuristic dystopian game show.

What’s Next For Glen Powell?

The “Running Man” remake is set to release in November, and “Shaun of the Dead’s” Edgar Wright will direct.

“Chad Powers” will release on Hulu in late September. The series builds on a viral video from Eli Manning, who underwent the alias as a “walk-on” quarterback in a prank on the Penn State University football team.

The show builds on the idea in the original skit, as a disgraced pro quarterback returns to college under a fake name and disguise to rebuild his career. The show even filmed in Athens, Georgia during last football season, as Powers’ fictitious school will face the Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels and Tennessee Volunteers in season one.

We’ll see who eventually fills the role of James Bond, but if a part opens up for “Jimmy,” know that Powell would be among the first to audition.
