Everyone knows that the first year of uni isn’t about learning academia. It’s about learning the exact amount of vodka cokes you can consume before you forget all the lyrics to Brat. Students across the UK are revving up for 2025’s Freshers’ Week. But be warned: You could get into serious trouble with your uni if your parties are too loud. Here are the 30 UK unis which punish the most students for having noisy parties.
Erm, so it’s actually quite common for people who have the bad luck of living near students to lodge official complaints to the unis about excessive noise. Sleep researchers from MattressNextDay dug up the exact amount of complaints that unis get about this. Brookes students are apparently the most disruptive in the UK (which I probably could have guessed, tbh). Oxford Brookes University has received a whopping 5,307 complaints about noisy students over the last five years. The University of Edinburgh and the University of Surrey weren’t far behind – with 3,706 and 3,060 complaints respectively. God, what are the students getting up to there?

Meh, who needs to go to 9ams anyway?
Some UK unis are much stricter about punishing students for noisy parties than other unis are. Like, at King’s College London, three quarters of noise complaints led to the uni taking disciplinary action against students.
So, here are the 30 UK unis where students are punished for noisy parties the most. This is based on how many noise complaints led to disciplinary action between 2020 and 2025.
