Neighbour speaks out after TikTok mum kills family in believed murder-suicide

A neighbour has described her shock after a TikTok mum killed her own family, including her husband and two of their children, in what police believe was a murder-suicide.

Police found Emily Long, 34, dead alongside her husband Ryan, 48, and their two children, Parker, 8, and Ryan, 6, inside the family’s Madbury home on Monday, August 18. New Hampshire State Police said in a press release that they also found a toddler alive with no physical injuries.

After autopsy results showed Emily’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted, the N.H. Department of Justice said the evidence shows she “caused their deaths”. Investigators believe she shot her family before turning the gun on herself.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s office confirmed Ryan had been shot multiple times. Emily and the children each died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Ryan had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. According to the Daily Mail, his diagnosis was terminal. Emily had shared openly on TikTok about her struggles as a caregiver, calling herself a “brain cancer wife” and describing how lonely and overwhelmed she felt. As per The Sun, Emily, in her final post, said she was “trying to get out of the rut” while acknowledging that her children were also struggling.

Her account has since been made private.

While her posts revealed her distress, a neighbour said she was blindsided by the tragedy.

“It was shocking. It was a perfect family as far as we knew,” said local resident Bevy Ketel, who told CBS News she had seen the children recently running a lemonade stand.

“It’s just like that kind of idyllic summer day, and then this. How does it go from that to this? It’s just shocking. We didn’t see it coming.”

She added that Ryan was a much-loved figure in the town. “He was part of the fabric of the community and his family goes along with it.”

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing but there is no wider threat to the public.
