Build One South Africa (BOSA) addressed recent tensions within the Government of National Unity (GNU) in a press briefing.
The party, led by Mmusi Maimane, responded to speculation about a possible reconfiguration of the GNU after 14 months in office.
While there has been talk of BOSA potentially joining, the party made it clear that it remains open to the idea only under strict conditions.
BOSA SHARES THREE CONDITIONS
Although BOSA has not been formally approached by the African National Congress (ANC) or other GNU partners, informal discussions are taking place. The party outlined three conditions for joining the GNU.
It ruled out working alongside the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) or the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party). BOSA called the EFF and MK Party inclusion a “non-starter.” It also stressed that all GNU partners would need to sign a firm commitment to non-racialism, constitutionalism, the rule of law, and justice through redress.
Finally, BOSA insisted that a clear governance plan be adopted. This should be used to attract investment, tackle crime and corruption, reform education, repair state-owned enterprises, and instil ethical leadership at every level.
“Without these prerequisite conditions, BOSA will not consider joining the GNU and bringing our values, expertise and experience to the table for the benefit all South Africans,” the party said.
RUMOURED MERGER AHEAD OF NEXT ELECTIONS
BOSA also confirmed that talks are underway with other political parties to explore possible consolidation ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections. An announcement is expected in the coming weeks, though details are still being finalised.
“Sometimes, achieving real change requires setting aside egos and old rivalries,” the party noted.
BOSA added that South Africa urgently needs new voices, fresh ideas and renewed energy in politics.
