The partner of a man who has been swept away while swimming at Thornwick Bay has spoken of her "living nightmare" as she pays moving tribute to the "great dad". Michelle Sigsworth, partner of Matthew McDavid, 42, also known as 'Matt' and from Leeds, is calling on people to "do a little extra" when they are walking along the cliffs around Thornwick Bay as emergency services desperately search for the dad of two.

A body has been found in the search for a dad-of-two who vanished while swimming.

Matthew McDavid was last seen off the coast of Flamborough, east Yorkshire, on July 30.

The 42-year-old’s partner Michelle Sigsworth described his disappearance as a ‘living nightmare’.

Speaking to the BBC, she said: ‘It’s just a living nightmare. We’re all just struggling with it and it’s hitting us more each day is going by.

‘I just want to make people aware that it’s dangerous in the water, the current can change so quickly.’

Matthew was a keen swimmer, bodyboarder, and kayaker, and had been with Michelle for 12 years.

Humberside Police have confirmed they recovered a man’s body yesterday.

They said: ‘Officers were in attendance on Tunstall beach following the discovery of a man’s body at around 5.30pm yesterday, Thursday, August 21.

‘The man has not yet been formally identified, however at this stage of our investigation, it is believed to be linked to reports of a concern for safety at Thornwick Bay in Flamborough on Wednesday 30 July 2025.

‘A post-mortem examination will take place in the coming days however at this time, the circumstances are not thought to be suspicious.

‘The man’s family have been informed and are being supported by officers.’
