‘Amazing’ mum-of-three who drowned in reservoir pictured as friends pay tribute

Friends have paid tribute to an ‘amazing’ mum-of-three who drowned in a reservoir last weekend.

Kimberley Johnson, 33, was found in Strinesdale Reservoir, Greater Manchester, on Sunday following a major search and rescue operation.

The mum from Rochdale was described as someone who would ‘light up every room’ by her close friend Tanya Kennedy.

Ms Kennedy said: ‘Kim was such an amazing woman, she took me in when I was younger and from there she always treated me like a sister,’ she said. 

‘I really wish I could speak to her one last time.’

Emergency services rushed to the body of water at around 4pm on Sunday after being alerted to a woman ‘getting into difficulty’.

The fire service’s specialist water incident unit were then called in as part of a rescue operation.

Kimberley’s body was retrieved from the reservoir at around 6.25pm that evening.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: ‘Emergency services responded to an incident at Strinesdale Reservoir at around 4:50pm yesterday (Sunday 17 August 2025) after reports of a woman getting into difficulty in the water,’ a force spokesperson said.

‘Sadly, the body of a woman was recovered.

‘There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.’

The authorities have not released further details about Kimberley or her death.
