Hawaiian Airlines Suspends Longest U.S. Flight Route

Hawaiian Airlines will phase out several underperforming flights this fall, including the U.S.’s longest domestic route, while reshaping its trans-Pacific network and boosting capacity on more popular destinations.

Honolulu-based Hawaiian Airlines announces it will discontinue three of its long-haul routes: Honolulu to Seoul, South Korea; Fukuoka, Japan; and Boston, according to The Seattle Times.

The Boston service, spanning 5,095 miles, holds the title of the longest domestic flight in the U.S. The airline said the cuts reflect shifting demand and a broader strategy to strengthen profitable routes. Airline officials say demand on those three routes has struggled to recover since the pandemic.

“It’s always a difficult decision to suspend a route, especially in cities like Seoul, which we have enjoyed serving for over 14 years,” said Hawaiian Airlines CEO Joe Sprague. “However, despite our team’s best efforts, soft post-pandemic travel demand from Asia, combined with various market challenges, have persisted in Seoul, as well as in Fukuoka and Boston, both of which we entered in 2019.”

With a new change in flights, the airline will operate its last flight from Fukuoka and Boston on November 19. Its final Seoul Incheon to Honolulu flight will occur a few days later on November 21. Due to these being the last flights, the airline will also contact affected passengers with the option to rebook on an alternate flight or request a refund.

According to the airline, as three routes were carried out by single-aisle Airbus A330-200 planes, and will be redeployed to other routes following the change in late November.

As an added result of removing three long-haul routes, the following destinations will receive added capacity: Sydney, Australia; Papeete, Tahiti; Los Angeles; and Seattle. From December 18 to January 31, daily flights from Honolulu to Sydney will receive more flights compared to the usual five flights per week.

Flights to Papeete will also double with two flights weekly starting in March 2026, with flights to Los Angeles receiving a fifth daily flight during peak holiday seasons, starting in November into early next year. Honolulu-Seattle will also receive a fourth daily flight in late November to mid-April.
