Devon Walker has offered some clarification on his exit from Saturday Night Live. On Aug. 25, the comedian announced his departure from the NBC late-night sketch series after three seasons.
After describing his time on the show as “really cool” and “toxic as hell” in an initial Instagram post, Walker, 34, took to his stories to let fans know he did not want a pity party.
“Just to be clear, this is good news!!” he wrote of his exit. “It was just time for me to do something different. Please do not be hitting me with all the ‘I’m so sorry’ we not on that AT ALL. Sometimes mom and dad just don’t see things eye to eye,” he added.
Walker also promised to share more details behind the decision on his My Favorite Lyrics podcast very soon.
Devon Walker Spent 3 Years on ‘SNL’
It was one year ago that Deadline announced that Walker was promoted to the main SNL cast alongside Marcello Hernandez and Michael Longfellow after two years as a featured player. During his time on SNL, Walker was known for his impersonations of New York mayor Eric Adams, ABC host Michael Strahan, and wacky game show contestants, among others.
In a 2023 interview with Texas State University’s Hillviews magazine. Walker said he was “thrilled” when he was asked to audition for SNL after spending time on the stand-up circuit.
“[SNL] was not something that I necessarily saw in front of me when I started doing standup,” he said in the interview. “My goal was always just to be able to be creative for a living in whatever kind of way that happened, whether that was standup or writing opportunities or acting opportunities, I was just trying to not sell pants anymore.”
It is unclear if Walker will be the only SNL cast member to leave the show ahead of Season 51. In addition to Walker, Hernandez, and Longfellow, the Saturday Night Live Season 50 cast included Kenan Thompson, Colin Jost, Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, James Austin Johnson, Bowen Yang, Sarah Sherman, as well as featured players Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline.
Saturday Night Live Season 51 premieres Oct. 4 on NBC.
