The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the grant payment dates for September 2025.
SASSA distributes various grants, including old-age grants, child support grants, disability grants and the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants.
The agency also pays out additional grants including the war veterans grant, the foster care grant, care dependency grant and the grant in aid.
SASSA PAYMENT DATES FOR SEPTEMBER 2025
Here are the grant payment dates for September 2025:
- Old age grant- Tuesday, 2 September 2025.
- Disability grant- Wednesday, 3 September 2025.
- Child support grant- Thursday, 4 September 2025.
SASSA TO INTRODUCE BIOMETRIC ENROLLMENT IN SEPTEMBER
SASSA is set to usher in a new digital era in South Africa with the mandatory Beneficiary Biometric Enrolment in all its offices starting in September 2025.
The Biometric Enrolment aims to be a precursor that will detect and nip in the bud of any fraudulent activities in the SASSA grant’s system.
It will also help detect forged green identity documents that frontline staff cannot reliably detect.
“Our plans were to commence with biometric enrolment at the beginning of the 2025/2026 financial year; however, we hit a snag, but we have ironed out the issues that delayed our plans and it is all systems go for the implementation,”said SASSA CEO Themba Matlou.
Grant applications captured and approved from the 1st of September 2025 onwards will include biometric fingerprint enrolment of facial recognition through electronic Know Your Client (eKYC).
Additionally, applications without biometric data will be put into the review cycle to notify the client of the need to capture biometrics as per the review processes.
Furthermore, the agency mentioned that it will not hesitate to act against and hold reliable its officials should they be suspected or caught working with anyone to defraud its systems.
