The Repair Shop left viewers emotional on Tuesday night as many commented that the ‘tears flowed’ after watching the episode.

A piece of plaster with huge sentimental value was repaired on Tuesday night’s show with John and Margaret Ivin, bringing in a broken fragment of plaster from their kitchen wall.

The couple met with heritage stonemason Rob Fraser and explained their heartbreaking story.

The couple renovated their kitchen last year and discovered a message from their late son, Christopher.

‘Where they’d taken one of the original cupboards off the wall, this was behind it, and it was a complete shock to see it there,’ said Margaret.

The message from their son read: ‘This is original wallpaper. Friday 4:15 8th December 1989. Please leave this wallpaper, Chris.’

It was revealed that their son died aged 35 from a rare form of testicular cancer.

‘It was 18 months from diagnosis to when he died. When you lose a child, you never get over it, you get through it, and we’ve just got through it.’

Although the repair looked perilous at points due to the fragile nature of the plaster, Rob was able to fix it, and brought the couple to tears after seeing the finished product.

‘What can I say? What can I say? It’s funny handwriting, he would be chuffed to bits to see that. I mean, he was what, 14? and he would’ve been 48 this year,’ said Margaret.

The episode left fans weeping, as they were completely moved by the incredible episode.

‘I love #therepairshop and that bit of old plaster with writing from their son that passed away was a brilliant job and soooooo moving,’ said flub5568 on X.

‘That wallpaper repair is superb. #therepairshop,’ said JohnWumz.

‘That was such a lovely repair and the tears flowed #therepairshop,’ said crazy_bitch88.

‘Yeah that one’s emotional…therepairshop,’ said theproperKP.

‘Such simple personal items on #TheRepairShop tonight.
That scrap of wallpaper “cries*,’ said Stellabranch.

‘I’m not crying, you’re crying #therepairshop #chrisstory,’ said lifeonpigrow.

The Repair Shop is available to watch on BBC iPlayer and airs Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC One.
