Dricus updates IG bio after new UFC ranking

Dricus du Plessis has updated his Instagram bio after losing his UFC Middleweight World Champion title to Khamzat Chimaev.

The 31-year-old was dethroned by the Russian MMA fighter, whom he claims was the “better opponent”.

DRICUS DU PLESSIS UPDATES IG BIO

On Monday, 25 August  – over a week after losing his UFC World Champion title to Khamzat Chimaev – Dricus du Plessis broke his silence on Instagram.

In it, Dricus revealed he had “embraced the loss” of his title.

“I have absolutely no excuses for my performance. I was beaten by a better fighter on the night”, he posted, congratulating Chimaev.

Eagled-eyed followers quickly noticed that Dricus had changed his IG bio to reveal his standing.

It now reads: “Former @ufc MW Champion 👑”

Dricus has vowed to make a comeback to win back his belt.

According to his official biography, he stands by the claim that he is not only the first South African to win a UFC title but also the first to bring a belt back to African soil.

The statement was a sore point for Nigerian-born former Middleweight World Champion Israel “Izzy” Adesanya, who fought Dricus earlier this year.

WORLD RANKING

After his defeat to Khamzat Chimaev, Dricus du Plessis has been pushed down to the second spot in the UFC’s middleweight rankings.

The title loss was the South African’s third in 26 professional fights.

Although Dricus wants to get back into action early next year, Brazilian MMA fighter Paulo Costa has challenged him to a fight.

He has yet to respond.
