Snoop Dogg’s cameo in lesbian TV show resurfaces after ‘homophobic’ rant about Disney film

Pictures of Snoop Dogg in the lesbian TV show The L Word have resurfaced after he received backlash for a “homophobic” rant he made about the Disney Toy Story spin-off Lightyear.

On the It’s Giving podcast, the rapper spoke about a recent trip to the cinema, when his grandson asked, “Papa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman”. In the film, two women raise a child together, and there’s one scene where they share a kiss.

“Aw sh*t, I didn’t come here for this sh*t, I just came here to watch the goddamn movie. So that’s like f*ck me, I’m scared to go to the movies now, y’all throwing me in the middle of this sh*t that I don’t have an answer for… it threw me for a loop,” Snoop said. “Do we have to show that at that age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”

The rapper got a lot of backlash for being “homophobic,” and there are calls for him to be removed from headlining a major event. Now, lots of people are remembering that he was in two episodes of The L Word in 2004. The drama, which is mostly written and directed by queer women, is about the lives and relationships of a group of lesbians and bisexuals in Los Angeles.

Snoop plays a fictional rapper called Slim Daddy who shoots a music video with one of the main female characters called Kit Porter. At the time, Kit’s sister is just beginning a relationship with her partner Tina, which goes on to be one of the show’s biggest dating storylines.

The rapper is now being labelled a hypocrite for appearing in a lesbian TV show himself, then making the comments about two homosexual women in Disney’s Lightyear.

“Remember when Snoop Dogg was on ‘The L Word’? How’s he going to explain THAT to his grandkids? What rhymes with hypocrite?” one person wrote on X.

Another said: “Snoop Dogg is homophobic now?? He was literally in The L Word over 20 years ago.”

The year before, the rapper told TMZ, “I don’t have a problem with gay people. I got some gay homies”. He said “love is love” and he’s “not trying to change anybody”. However, Snoop did argue that homosexuality and rap music don’t mix.

After Frank Ocean came out as gay, he told The Guardian: “Frank Ocean ain’t no rapper. He’s a singer. It’s acceptable in the singing world, but in the rap world I don’t know if it will ever be acceptable because rap is so masculine.”

Snoop Dogg has previously been approached for comment.
