Lily Collins has been called out by fans on social media after her ‘insensitive’ Instagram post about Emily in Paris.
Production on the Netflix show was halted last week following the tragic death of assistant director Diego Borella on August 21, at the age of 47.
According to La Repubblica, he collapsed while preparing to shoot the final scene of the upcoming fifth season – emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save him.
The set was briefly shut down but the cast were seen returning to work on Saturday before the show officially wrapped.
Taking to Instagram yesterday, Collins, who stars as titular character Emily Cooper, shared a string of photos alongside co-star Ashley Park, sharing her ‘pride’ at the upcoming episodes.

‘And that’s another wrap on @emilyinparis… Here’s to five seasons of friendship turned sisterhood – Venice, Paris, Rome, anywhere is home with you by my side,’ the 36-year-old captioned the post.
‘Incredibly grateful for our Emily family and so extremely proud of what we all created together this year. Arrivederci ’til December 18!…’
However, her followers were left upset after she failed to mention Borella in her post, and quickly blasted her words in the comments below.
Kk_htown_atx wrote: ‘Doesn’t this seem a little tasteless and tacky? An assistant director died just 3 days ago on set?!’
Eristoffgirl penned: ‘Congrats Lily and your whole crew! But how come not mentioning anything about the death case in your crew? Not even condolences or anything…’
‘No mention or tribute to the assistant director who collapsed on set last week and eventually passed away?,’ Sfsportschick1 questioned.
‘Yeah.. like it’s one thing to not post any Emily In Paris content bc ur grieving/respecting someone that passed but it’s another to be spamming happy posts from set while not even mentioning the death lol idk it leaves a weird taste in my mouth and I have always liked Lily Collin’s so idk how to feel rn [sic],’ Audreyaesthetic replied.
As Savannah_fran44 simply added: ‘Yeahhh this is a little insensitive [sic].’
Borella, who worked as a third assistant director for the show, reportedly collapsed while on set in Venice last Thursday, during preparation for the final scene inside Hotel Danieli.
According to reports, medical staff attempted to revive him but he was pronounced dead at around 7pm last Thursday.
Paramount Television Studios later confirmed the sad news in a statement to People Magazine, which read: ‘We are deeply saddened to confirm the sudden passing of a member of the Emily in Paris production family.
‘Our hearts go out to the individual’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.’
Emily in Paris first hit out screens on Netflix in 2020, following the fictional character’s rollercoaster journey as she swaps the US for Europe.
The fifth season will premiere on December 18, and will see her take on a new adventure in Italy.
