Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley Makes Stunning Decision for U.S. Team

As captain of the 2025 Team USA Ryder Cup, Keegan Bradley was tasked with selecting six of the competitors on the 12-man roster. The golf pro shocked the world when he decided not to assign himself a spot on the team.

Bradley, 39, announced his captain’s picks who will compete in the biennial tournament late next month. Instead of selecting himself — as he is currently ranked 11th overall in the Ryder Cup rankings — Bradley selected Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Cameron Young, Ben Griffin, and Sam Burns.

Thomas is ranked seventh overall, with Morikawa eighth and Griffin ninth. Falling in order behind Bradley are Young, Cantley and Burns, ranked 14th, 15th and 16th, respectively.

Rounding out the team are Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau, who all auto qualified based on performance.

“The decision was made awhile ago that I wasn’t playing,” Bradley said on Wednesday, revealing that he is focused on “being the best captain” that he can be. “There was a point this year where I was playing, a while ago. All these guys stepped up in a major way and played their way on this team.”

According to Thomas, Bradley “wants to do whatever is best for the team.”

“I know he’s gutted (not to play), and I think all of us are gutted for him,” Thomas added. “But at the same time, I would say him leading us to a victory will be cooler than any experience he could have as a player, and that’s probably what he feels like is best for us. So we have all the faith in the world, and we don’t doubt him for one second for that.”

The team gets set to tee off September 26 at the Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York.
