President Cyril Ramaphosa has paid tribute to Eye Witness News (EWN)’s renowned journalist and political editor, Matshidiso “Tshidi” Madia.
Madia passed away on Wednesday morning, 27 August, following a short illness and hospitalisation.
RAMAPHOSA PAYS TRIBUTE TO TSHIDI MADIA
Since her passing, condolences have been pouring in for the fierce 42-year-old whose professional career began at Primedia Broadcasting, starting as an assistant at EWN’s traffic desk.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has also sent his condolences to Madia’s family, friends and colleagues saying she passed away in the prime of her life.
Ramaphosa said Tshidi loved South Africa, and this was the backdrop to her tough questions and her hopeful vision of a South Africa that can and should be better.
“We shall continue to work for Tshidi’s South Africa with her now silent pen and voice in our memories and hearts.
“Her passing during Women’s Month reminds us of her stature as a remarkable citizen and thought leader presented to the nation as an outstanding woman. May her soul rest in peace,” the President said.
CONDOLENCES POUR IN
Political parties and South Africans from all walks of life have also paid tribute to Tshidi Madia, who was well-known for asking politicians tough but necessary questions in her in-depth interviews.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said her professional journey reflected commitment and dedication to journalism.
“Madia’s contribution to political journalism will be remembered with respect. May her soul rest in peace,” the party said.
Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader Mmusi Maimane said Tshidi Madia was one of the hardest-working journalists in the world and was a part of what makes South Africa the best nation in the world.
“Tshidi took her profession seriously and respected people from all walks of life. It is truly an immeasurable loss to the media community, to the fabric of journalism in South Africa.
“I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences and prayers to the Madia family, to all her friends and work colleagues. We are all shocked, we are hurt, and we are gutted,” Maimane posted on X.
UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party said Madia’s passing is not only a loss to her family and colleagues, but to the nation as a whole.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and the entire media fraternity. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”
