A British mum who was mowed down by a taxi in Ibiza alongside her friend has spoken her first words to her family.

Lauren Holmes, 27, is now conscious but ‘can’t remember a thing’ after suffering traumatic brain injuries and several broken bones.

The mum-of-two was with pal Ebony Cordingley, 26, when the pair were hit by a Toyota Corolla driven by a 24-year-old on Tuesday on the El-600 road between Ibiza and San Antonio.

Lauren suffered two broken legs, a broken arm, a fractured spine, broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Her mum Bernice Ramsden and friend Ethan Hawks has flown out to the island to see her.

Ethan said: ‘She can’t remember a thing, the last thing she can remember is going out for some food.

‘Her younger son’s autistic so he doesn’t understand but her daughter’s just heartbroken. She just wants her home.

‘We don’t know what’s going on with the taxi driver, we don’t know if he’s been arrested, we don’t know if he’s insured.

‘They said she could be in hospital for six to eight weeks if she has her treatment here.

‘We asked about taking her home and they said it would be something like £33,000.’

Bernice described the moment she was told her daughter was involved in a serious accident while on holiday with her friend.

Bernice said: ‘It was just supposed to be a little break.

‘I found out what had happened when her friend phoned me and just said, “there’s been an accident, she’s been run over”.

‘She said “don’t panic” but I was panicking like hell, I was phoning people trying to find out what was going on.’

Ebony, from Bradford, West Yorks, is in the private Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic and Lauren Holmes is in intensive care at Ibiza’s main Can Misses state hospital.

Ebony’s sister Shannon said she believed the pair were struck as they crossed the road on their way back from a meal.

She added: ‘They weren’t drinking, weren’t leaving any clubs, they played in a park on swings, went for a walk, went for food then walked back to their hotel, not realising the dangers of the roads around there.’

Ebony is now stable and has been taken out of intensive care.

‘I can’t give you an update on Lauren’s condition at the moment, but Ebony has a bleed on the brain, bleeding in her lungs, broken leg, fractured leg, broken ribs and multiple contusions,’ Shannon said.

‘Our mum has flown out to Ibiza and is meeting with the embassy today.’

The Spanish Civil Guard is still investigating the crash.
