Emmerdale’s Danny Miller has promised ‘high-end drama’ for the upcoming Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover.
Back in May, it was confirmed that both ITV soaps will join forces in a one-off special edition that marks a new broadcast pattern, launching in 2026.
It was announced earlier this year that both serial dramas will air in what has been dubbed as a ‘power hour’ from 8pm, Monday to Friday. Ultimately it means that both shows will lose a half an hour episode per week.
This event is the first time that soap worlds have collided in an official capacity – though we have seen small crossovers for Children in Need and to highlight climate change in the past.
Producers have confirmed that the episode will be marked in ‘spectacular style’, with production teams from Leeds and Trafford working together to achieve an ‘ambitious stunt’ that will have ‘everlasting consequences’ for the communities of Weatherfield and Emmerdale.
An ‘ingenious’ way of merging the two has been devised by those behind the scenes, although it’s understood that the characters will then return to their respective environments after the ep.

Forever linked together, familiar faces will depart while some fresh new faces will arrive in both soaps.
The high-stakes drama will subsequently have huge repercussions for everyone involved in the time following.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, storyline details for the crossover are being kept top secret right now.
As a result, the majority of cast members in both shows don’t really know much about what to expect. This was reiterated in Danny Miller’s recent chat with all-round hun Luke Hamnett:

‘Genuinely everybody’s asking the same question. We don’t know. We know who’s involved, if you’re involved, that kind of thing, that’s ultimately it. For these exact reasons, if they give you too much information, you could slip up’, he said on Luke’s podcast Live Laugh Luke.
‘I genuinely don’t know and I’m as interested as everyone else to find out what they’re going to do with it. It’s very much a secret, closed off project at the moment. The powers that be know what’s going on, it trickles down to us eventually.
‘The whispers are September/October time for filming it, I don’t know whether that means it’s going to be on around that time or next year, I promise you I know absolutely nothing.’
One thing Danny did say that sets the scene for what’s to come, is that both teams at Corrie and Emmerdale are passionate about making this crossover something we will remember for a very long time.

‘I think, the one thing they’ve said, is that it won’t be someone walking into the Rovers and going “Oh I’ve got the wrong pub”, it’s not going to be like that’, he explained.
‘They don’t want to make it look like it’s just a p*** take. They want to make it a really good, high-end drama. I hope they do. Soap for me, has changed my life.’
Danny’s Emmerdale character Aaron Dingle is currently married to the show’s latest villain John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).
The couple are currently on holiday in a little cottage in the middle of the woods. They left the village after concluding that they needed a break from family drama, but had a thought in the back of their minds that they may potentially leave the Dales forever.

Aaron remains unaware at the moment that John has been responsible for multiple crimes in the village, including the death of Nate Robinson and potential murder of Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb).
John lives with a hero complex, meaning he orchestrates deadly situations that he knows how to fix. He swoops in, saves the person he put in danger, and is then praised by everyone around him.
In upcoming episodes, John will work out that Aaron is starting to have doubts about him.
He then drugs some whisky and manipulates Aaron into drinking it, determined for his husband to become completely dependant on him.
