While the roles for high-profile superheroes such as Superman and Batman are limited as it is, whenever there is a new name cast for one of those parts in a movie or television show, it’s often someone making their first jump into the world of Marvel or DC Studios. However, one former Superman actor has his sights set on doing the almost unthinkable—suiting up as Batman after just wrapping up playing the Man of Steel.
Tyler Hoechlin, who played the role of Clark Kent, aka Superman, in the CW series Superman & Lois, which ran from 2021-2024, has officially thrown his hat into the ring for James Gunn’s DCU reboot, admitting his desire to play The Dark Knight.
Former ‘Superman’ Actor Tyler Hoechlin Admits ‘Selfishly’ He Wants to Play ‘Batman’
During a recent panel at Fan Expo Canada, ScreenRant asked Hoechlin if he thinks the current star of The Batman and the upcoming film, The Batman Part II, Robert Pattinson, would fit into Gunn’s new DCU. His response was a surprising one, as the actor admitted that “selfishly” he’d say no, but only because he wants to take on the role in the next Batman film.
“Well, selfishly, I’m going to say no because I still want to play Batman,” Hoechlin said. “I think, and I say that Rob did a fantastic, fantastic job and [with] Matt Reeves it was great. So I’m happy to let them keep doing their thing, and maybe leave the door open…”
There was no sugarcoating it for Hoechlin, who made his desire to join Gunn’s expected The Brave and the Bold film very clear. It’ll be interesting to see if the 37-year-old is in consideration for the role, as it’s been one of the most often-discussed future superhero roles in recent memory.
Although it seems unlikely Pattinson would reprise the role of Bruce Wayne in Gunn’s DCU reboot, that also makes for an interesting aspect of the debate. Regardless, Pattinson is slated to return for Matt Reeves’ sequel The Batman Part II, which is currently scheduled to be released on Oct 1, 2027.
The expectation is that following Reeves’ encore to the 2022 film The Batman, the franchise will shift to Gunn’s highly anticipated film. Several names have been linked as potential options to play Bruce Wayne in The Brave and the Bold, but while Gunn has shut down the idea of a few high-profile actors taking on the role, he hasn’t tipped his hat on anyone in serious consideration yet.
