The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for a popular Trader Joe’s frozen item.
On Friday, the FSIS announced an alert targeting Trader Joe’s Uncured Pepperoni Pizza from Italy because it “did not receive the benefit of import reinspection.” Because the product is no longer available in stores, a recall was not necessary.
You can view images of the product here. One lot of the packaged pizza is for 6/16/25 and has a best-by date of August 16, 2026, while the other lot was from 6/21/25 and contains a best-by date of August 21, 2026.
The product also has the Italy establishment number “IT 1558 L UE” listed inside the Italian mark on inspection on the front.

What to do if you have this product?
The specific batches of Trader Joe’s Uncured Pepperoni Pizza from Italy listed in the public health warning were shipped to retailers throughout the state of California.
“The problem was discovered when FSIS was notified by Trader Joe’s Company that the frozen NRTE uncured pepperoni pizza product was not presented for FSIS import reinspection,” said the USDA notice.
The good news is, there are no reported occurrences of illnesses at this time.
If you have one of these pizzas, you are urged not to consume it and to throw it away in the proper manner.
