Halloween Horror Nights Offers ‘No Scare’ Add-On: Is It Worth It?

Universal Studios’ annual Halloween Horror Nights introduced a seemingly contradictor new twist for 2025. The amusement park is now offering a “Deathly Afraid” necklace.

From now until November 2, parkgoers can pay an additional $20 (on top of the ticket price) in order to avoid being scared at the Halloween-themed event. The news was met with mixed reviews from fans of the spooky, with some questioning why people would bother attending the scarefest. Others questioned if the appearance of a “no scare” necklace, would affect an entire group’s experience.

Is the ‘Deathly Afraid’ Necklace Worth It?

One Tiktoker, who goes by the name Walruscarp, tested out the necklace’s worth during the event’s opening night.

“The Deathly Afraid Necklace promotes you won’t be targeted in the scare zones and it works perfectly. You have to try it if you’re worried,” he captioned his video.

Walruscarp reported that when his necklace was lit up and visible, costumed monsters took note and walked around him. “They went right by me,” he said. “They saw me and they completely just walked around.”

However, when he hid the necklace inside his shirt, he was subjected to a fright.

Friends in his group also reported that, despite Walruscarp flashing his “no scare” necklace, zombies, monsters and vampires did not shy away from scaring them.

According to Universal Parks News Today, the “Deathly Afraid” necklace only protects the wearer in “common areas and scare zones — not haunted houses.” In that regard, it might be best to sit out while your party hits up the haunted houses and mazes.

The “Deathly Afraid” necklace is available at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orland.
