Bill Belichick’s UNC debut ended in disaster Monday night, with the Tar Heels losing 48-14 to TCU at home.
After UNC scored on its opening possession to take a 7-0 lead, the night deteriorated quickly. TCU scored the next 41 points, including two defensive touchdowns and a 75-yard rushing score on the first play of the second half.
Belichick’s team was thoroughly outclassed, ruining a star-studded atmosphere at Kenan Stadium that included legendary UNC alums Michael Jordan, Lawrence Taylor and Roy Williams.
“We’re better than what we were tonight, but we have to go out there and show that and prove it,” Belichick said after the game. “Nobody’s going to do it for us. We’re going to have to do it ourselves, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
Because of Belichick’s stature as a coach–and his love life–much of the spotlight leading up to Monday was on UNC.
It seems like TCU, or at least the person running their official X/Twitter account, may have taken that personally.

From the moment the final seconds ticked off the clock, the official TCU football X account was spitting fire.
“Babe go back to sleep,” read one tweet in response to an earlier tweet from Deadspin reading “Babe wake up, Bill Belichick coaches college football today.”

Not stopping there, @TCUFootball also quote-tweeted its UNC counterpart teasing the Heels’ upcoming Hulu documentary series.
“When does episode one come out?” the account asked.

There were also a number of tweets mocking takes from sports media personalities like Colin Cowherd and Skip Bayless, who had been hyping up the Heels and Belichick.
Additionally, TCU wanted to make sure its head coach, Sonny Dykes, got the credit he deserved, showcasing him in several videos.
Even Lawrence Taylor couldn’t avoid a stray, as TCU threw in a photo of legendary Horned Frog and NFL Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson, calling him “the real LT.”

At least one player joined in on the trolling
Defensive back Bud Clark, whose second quarter interception return for a touchdown helped break the game open, taunted Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson in a postgame video from the TCU locker room.
“Belichick gotta call for his girlfriend…He sad,” Clark said on IG Live.
Overall, not how Belichick and the Heels wanted their first game to go. We’ll see if UNC can bounce back this Saturday against Charlotte.
