When the Kansas City Chiefs kick off the 2025 NFL season on Friday, Sept. 5, against the rival Los Angeles Chargers, they’ll do so in another country. The Week 1 matchup is set to take place at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil, as part of the NFL’s international schedule of games.
While international matchups have been scheduled throughout the season for years, though, it sounds like some Chiefs players weren’t entirely sure about how the matchup in Brazil would impact their sleep schedules. Dating back to 2015, the Chiefs have played in London, Mexico and Germany, posting an unbeaten 3-0 record in international matchups.
Patrick Mahomes Hilariously Admitted He Explained ‘How the Globe Works’ to Travis Kelce
While recently speaking with reporters, the topic of the impact of travel for international games was discussed with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. After stating that the trainers and coaches have done the research on preparation, he added that a few of his teammates needed a breakdown of the travel timeline and time change for the trip to Brazil.
This included Travis Kelce, whom Mahomes joked he had to explain “how the globe works” to.
“I think more than anything, it was just explaining to some guys how far the trip was,” Mahomes said. “Some guys didn’t understand how far the travel was. Travis [Kelce], even though he just was down there like last year. So I was explaining to him how the globe works.”
It was a well-timed, sarcastic jab from Mahomes to his star tight end, and Kelce surely took it in stride. For good measure, while it was a lengthy 10-12 hour flight from Kansas City, MO, to São Paulo, Brazil, the time change isn’t a bad one. With the kickoff set for 7 pm CDT, that’ll make it 9 pm in Brazil.
While Kelce has been gearing up for his 12th NFL season, he’s obviously been a bit busy while wrapping up the offseason during his downtime. After all, planning and putting together a proposal is a tall task, and one that he surely put plenty of time and effort into for his now-fiancée, Taylor Swift.
