The Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers have never been strangers to one another, having shared the same division as NFL rivals dating back to 1933.
But given the dramatic uptick in success the Lions have seen under head coach Dan Campbell over the span of just four seasons, including a trip to the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, the once lowly franchise has become a much bigger part of the conversation.
And that absolutely includes the game played outside the lines, which has frequently been performed to perfection by Campbell when meeting with the media.

When asked about the prospect of Detroit opening the season with the instant challenge of facing a talented Packers team on the road, the candid Campbell bluntly welcomed such an opportunity, praising Lambeau Field to a highly expressive degree.
The 49-year-old Campbell truly went straight biblical with this one:

“Man, we love Lambeau [Field]. It’s awesome,” Campbell began. “You know, it’s just, that’s one of those places, on the eighth day, the good Lord made Lambeau … It’s got that deep history to it. You know it’s the grass, it’s the elements, it’s just the mystique, it’s awesome. If you love football, you love going to play there.”
If fans of the Packers were seeking any kind bulletin board material to get trending prior to Sunday’s Week 1 featured afternoon showdown on CBS, they will probably need to find it somewhere else.
Because they certainly won’t be getting it from Campbell.
For the animated head coach, widely known for his straight-forward style, to refer to the storied stadium as, “one of those places on the eighth day, the good Lord made Lambeau,” is the type of praise that even the harshest haters of Campbell in Green Bay would find pretty difficult not to embrace with open arms.
Campbell finished by adding that his players “look forward to it” and that Lambeau is “one of those special places you’ll play.”
If this notable quote was Campbell’s version of “kill them with kindness” before proceeding to dominate the football field come Sunday, the fiery head coach touched the sky with this one.
The Lions and Packers are scheduled to kickoff at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 7, on CBS, serving as an early litmus test for two division rivals that share monstrous expectations heading into the 2025 NFL season.
Considering Detroit finished with a record of 15-2 last year that proved to be good enough for the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs, but shockingly fell well short of their Super Bowl dreams in a crushing 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round, the Lions will be looking to make a statement in Green Bay.
Sunday’s clash will also mark the highly anticipated debut of three-time All-Pro Micah Parsons, the former Dallas Cowboys star that Green Bay recently acquired in a blockbuster trade.
