The actress was the star of American Eagle’s commercials for women’s jeans, and the campaign went viral – but not only because of Sweeney’s star power. Critics of the ads pointed to the “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” tagline.

The slogan focuses on the similarities between “genes” and “jeans,” with Sweeney noting that the former can determine “hair color, personality and even eye color.” Many fans enjoyed seeing the actress in the commercials, but others criticized them for sinister undertones or ideologies.

Sweeney’s new ads are for another well-respected brand, and they’re drawing attention on social media once again.

The “Euphoria” star has been named as one of the new faces of British fashion house Jimmy Choo. She’s featured prominently on the brand’s Instagram and other social media accounts this week, mostly in a ballet-themed ad campaign.

The actress wears a leotard and tall white boots as she reads from a book and poses for the camera. The commercials are clearly catering to a different audience than the American Eagle jeans, showing that Sweeney can be a marketing force for multiple products.

Some of the backlash to Sweeney’s previous ad campaign came from elsewhere in the entertainment world. Rapper Doja Cat mocked the commercials in a TikTok, and the impact or meaning of the commercials has been endlessly discussed by podcasts and video essayists.
