The Delicious $4 Plant-Based, Protein-Packed Aldi Find Shoppers Are Stocking Up On Before It’s Gone

One of the questions I am often asked as a registered dietitian is how to get enough protein on a plant-based diet. Whether that’s adding soy-based protein products like tofu and tempeh, focusing on beans and legumes or incorporating more dairy-based products into your diet, there are multiple ways to eat more vegan and vegetarian protein sources.

Aldi’s new frozen plant-based meal is comfort food in a bowl. The Whole and Simple Orecchiette with Broccoli Rabe and Pea Protein contains 11-grams of protein per 1-cup serving. Per the ingredients list, the meal’s main ingredients include pasta, broccoli rabe, pea protein, onion, smoked salt, herbs and spices, Parmesan cheese and olive oil. The added pea fiber boosts the fiber content up to 3-grams per serving.

Per the cooking instructions, the pasta dish can be made on the stovetop or in the microwave. No matter how you decide to prepare it, it’ll be ready in less than 10 minutes. Each 16-ounce bag provides 3 servings and retails for $3.79. It could make the perfect main dish or for an even higher protein meal, served with grilled salmon or chicken breast.

Aldi is dropping another frozen penne with kale and ricotta meal, a lineup of fan-favorite fall-inspired soups and two new nostalgia-packed raviolini.

Additionally, this week, their Aldi Finds section loaded up with kitchen gear that, in true Aldi fashion, is functional and affordable. Some of our favorites include the acacia wood lazy susan, cast iron dutch oven, immersion blender with whisk attachment, space-saving cutting board with inserts, George Foreman panini grill and cast iron grill pan.

While the Orecchiette with Broccoli Rabe appears to be a new item at Aldi, so there are no reviews floating around yet, fans have long been loving their Specially Selected bronze cut orecchiette pasta. There are multiple Reddit and Facebook threads sharing ideas on how to prepare it and what to serve it with. A favorite seems to be sauteing it with Italian sausage and broccoli rabe, so we’re confident this frozen, ready-to-cook dish will be a popular one.

I’m looking forward to stocking our freezer with it, as I’m a fan of a quick, nutritious meal or side dish that’s plant-forward for those busy weeknights. This one drops on September 10, and it probably won’t stick around long.
