Now that football season is in full swing, Wingstop’s newest flavor couldn’t have landed at a better time. This new flavor is winning over fans left and right. The Smoky Chipotle rub is bold, spicy, and packed with smoky barbecue flavor. You’ll catch notes of fire-roasted peppers, paprika, and a touch of honey that balance smoke with heat.
Starting September 3, you can order this limited-time rub across the menu, whether you’re a flats loyalist, boneless fan, or all about those tenders. Pair it with Cajun corn, fries, or even your sandwich for a full game-day spread. Just don’t wait too long. This flavor is only here for a short while.
Is the Smoky Chipotle Rub a Hit or Miss?
Wingstop has a selection of 12 flavors, including favorites like Lemon Pepper, Louisiana Rub, and Garlic Parmesan. Pretty much every flavor is a standout. That’s why these limited-edition releases are so special. You only get them for a short time, so they make you savor every bite.
On social media, fans are already ranking Smoky Chipotle among Wingstop’s best. That’s quite a feat with such a stacked lineup of flavors. Some even call this new release a 10 out of 10, saying it rivals classics like Lemon Pepper. For game day spreads, plenty are saying it is a must-order.
Even rookie quarterback Cam Ward is backing the new flavor: “That’s the play right there. Lemon Pepper is my go-to, but Smoky Chipotle that’s major.” You can’t get higher praise than that.
As for spice level, opinions vary. Some say it delivers a perfect kick without being too overpowering, while others wish it packed a bit more heat. Because each order is hand-sauced and tossed, your experience may differ slightly depending on the location and even the food item.

Wingstop Flavor Releases in 2025
Smoky Chipotle joins a strong lineup of limited-time hits this year. In May, Wingstop dropped Mexican Street Spice, inspired by street corn with parmesan, lime, and South of the Border seasonings. Then in July, the chain introduced Hot Lemon, a mashup of the fan-favorite Lemon Pepper and Original Hot sauces. That one delivered a bright citrus kick with a peppery bite.
In 2024, Wingstop’s limited releases included Sweet BBQ Glaze and T.H.C. (The Hot Chili) Rub, in honor of 4/20. Limited releases have been known to make it onto the official menu, though. For instance, the Hot Honey Rub graduated from a short-release flavor to a permanent menu item in 2024. Will the Smoky Chipotle do the same? We’ll have to wait and see, but things are looking good.
