AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The National Transportation Safety Board released its final report this week on a plane crash in middle of an Augusta neighborhood that killed the pilot in May 2024.
NTSB reported that the pilot, Jason McKenzie, turned too quickly at too low of a speed and altitude which caused the plane’s engine to stall, leading to a loss of control of the aircraft.
“The pilot’s excessive turn rate and bank angle while at low airspeed and altitude, resulting in an
accelerated aerodynamic stall, loss of airplane control, and collision with terrain,” the report stated.
McKenzie was flying the plane from Daniel Field around 7 a.m. on May 2, 2024 when the plane crashed on the front lawn of a home at the corner of Hillcrest Avenue and Belmont Drive in Augusta.
McKenzie was remembered by many as an outstanding member of the community.
