Ryan Reynolds Finally Breaks Silence on Instagram Post Behind ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Buzz

As the waiting game continues for the many Marvel fans excited for the release of the 2026 film Avengers: Doomsday, reports and rumors about the cast continue to swirl. Some of that buzz was self-generated, specifically when it came to Ryan Reynolds and the unanswered question about the status of his beloved character Deadpool in the latest upcoming addition to the Marvel franchise.

Reynolds took to Instagram in mid-August to post a photo with a one-word caption. It featured the Avengers logo spray-painted over with the letter “A,” and all Reynolds wrote was: “WHAT,” alongside a side-eye emoji. The post sparked immediate buzz about its potential meaning, with many speculating that Deadpool would appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

There’s good news and bad news. The good news is that Reynolds finally cleared the air on that Instagram post by seemingly providing the meaning behind it. The bad news? His answer also provided zero clarity on whether he’ll reprise the role of Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday.

As Reynolds clarified while speaking with Collider, the logo is a “variant of the flag” used in Deadpool & Wolverine. As for what’s next for Deadpool? His answer was literally, “blah, blah, blah.”

“The thing I posted on social, that is actually a variant of the flag that we use in Deadpool & Wolverine,” Reynolds explained. “It was my favorite. For some reason, you watch a movie later that has that many alts and all that stuff, and you go, ‘Why didn’t I choose that one? There were five other great jokes for that.’ That’s how it works, and that was just a flag. I just came across it, and I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I loved that flag. The red and black vibe.’”

“And then, you know, there’s always talk. We’re figuring out what’s next in that world and blah, blah, blah,” Reynolds added.

There’s certainly always talk, and not surprisingly, Reynolds is remaining tight-lipped on his popular character, providing no info about Deadpool making the leap into the Avengers universe.

For good measure, Reynolds is far from the only actor who’s played a superhero who opted to effectively give a shrug when asked about a role in Avengers: Doomsday. Joining him on that list is the co-star of Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman, who’s played Wolverine since 2000.

If the recent answers from Reynolds are any indication, don’t expect him to give anything major away anytime soon. However, we probably shouldn’t be surprised if another cryptic Instagram post or two pop up.
