American Airlines is rolling out a new direct flight from its Miami hub to an island paradise.
On Monday morning, American announced that starting Feb. 14, 2026, the company will be providing direct, nonstop service from Miami to Bimini, Bahamas.
In doing so, they will become the only American airline offering service to Bimini. Previously, Silver Airways flew to Bimini from Fort Lauderdale, but that service stopped early this year when the company failed, says Cirium Diio.
“American knows that travellers are looking for unique and varied experiences, and that’s why we’ve added destinations like Bimini to our network,” said Brian Znotins, American’s senior VP of network planning.
“We recently announced new routes for travelers to explore unique architecture in Prague or Budapest or ski down exciting slopes in Sun Valley, and now we’re offering a new island option in the Bahamas.”
What to know
American already has six destinations in the Bahamas, with Bimini next on the list. Comprise of two islands–North and South Bimini– commercial airlines fly into South Bimini with ferry service available to the north, per Bahamas.com.
“With stunning beachfront resorts, excursions to see dolphins in the open waters, snorkeling and even world-class big game fishing, American’s new flight will make it convenient for globetrotters to enjoy new experiences,” said the American press release.
According to Thrifty Traveler, the flight from Miami to Bimini is only 64 miles long, with a projected flight time of one hour.
The last major U.S. airline to offer full-time service to Bimini was United in 2012 and 2013.
When will American’s new service start?
Direct flights from Miami to Bimini will begin Feb. 14, 2026. Starting that day, American will offer nonstop round-trip service on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
“Customers can connect through MIA to Bimini from more than 80 destinations in the U.S. and Canada,” the airline said.
