Horror in Spain: Bull Charges Into Crowd—Man Gored to Death

While Spain is a country rich with culture and tradition, its traditions involving bulls roaming the streets have led to one man’s death. In a video shared by TMZ, graphic footage captured by onlookers shows the events of a bull going full speed ahead into attacking a middle-aged man.

For the 10th annual festival called Toro del Gayumbo in the Spanish town of Ubrique, two bulls were released into the streets, with one bull first released at 12:30 PM. The other, named Mosquetero, was let loose at 6:30 PM when the incident occurred.

In the video footage, it can be seen how the brown-colored bull charged at the man in a green jersey. The man tried to hold himself up out of danger using the window rails on a building, but the bull caught his foot and caused the man to fall to the ground.

The bull charged ahead headfirst into the man with its horns before the video cut off. According to reports, the man was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

According to The Sun, town hall officials declared a day of mourning today following the tragic events.

“We would like to express our sincere condolences and solidarity with the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased,” they said in a statement.

“We would also like to announce that, as a sign of respect, tonight’s fireworks display has been cancelled.”

In addition, they announced flags would fly half-mast as a sign of mourning, and asked for understanding from local residents and visitors.

One local, Isabel Carrasco Romero, commented on the unwarranted death, saying, “This would have been a preventable death if our council did not promote these kinds of backward events under the guise of tradition.”

Criticism toward the Toro del Gayumbo in the Spanish town of Ubrique is not uncommon. The event gained popularity after being organized in 2014, and involves two bulls being released, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The bulls roam through a designated and fenced-off route through town. The event has been under scrutiny for animal abuse, especially after one bull appeared to have died from exhaustion in 2017.
