Authorities on Sept. 7 recovered the body of a man who drove his car over the Grand Canyon’s South Rim and plunged 300 feet below.
According to the National Park Service, authorities received a call at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Sept. 7, about a vehicle with a single occupant that drove over the rim near the South Kaibab Trailhead.
Park rangers immediately responded to the scene and located the mangled car below. The body was transported to the rim by helicopter and then transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The man has since been identified as Steven (Drew) Bradley of Federal Heights, Colorado. He was 27.
It’s unclear what caused the car to drive over the rim. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
Just last month, a 20-year-old from California died after he drove into the canyon east of the Yavapai Geology Museum on the South Rim.
The body and his car were recovered 1,000 feet below the rim.
