Kendrick Lamar’s 2025 Emmy Win Puts Him in Elite Company With Just 2 Others

The impressive career of Kendrick Lamar has continued its surge into 2025 and is showing no signs of slowing down. While he’s already won 22 Grammy Awards, five American Music Awards and 37 BET Hip-Hop Awards, among several others, he also picked up his second Emmy Award on Sunday, Sept. 7. It came at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, and he received the Outstanding Music Direction honor thanks to his Super Bowl LIX halftime show in February 2025.

As impressive as this feat alone is, he also took home the Outstanding Variety Special for the 2022 Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show. That show featured the likes of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem and 50 Cent, along with Lamar. His second Emmy victory also placed him in a class with just two others in history who have taken home multiple Grammys, Emmys and a Pulitzer Prize.

While Lamar, a rapper/singer/songwriter/producer, has put together a lengthy list of accolades, arguably the most unique was his 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music. He became the first musician in history outside of the classical and jazz genres to ever receive the award.

Pairing his Pulitzer with the impressive list of Grammys and now his second Emmy, he joined a list of just three stars to ever accomplish a unique feat. Marvin Hamlisch and Lin-Manuel Miranda were previously the only names in history to win multiple Grammys, Emmys and a Pulitzer Prize, as Complex highlighted. Now, Lamar’s name is etched in history alongside the duo.

Lamar’s 2025 Super Bowl halftime show drew strong reviews from fans, as he performed the widely popular diss track directed at Drake, “Not Like Us.” His performance featured several of his popular hits and also included appearances from the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Serena Williams, SZA and several others.

The “All the Stars” rapper, a song featured on the Black Panther album, also holds the record for most Grammy nominations for a rapper in a single year, picking up 11 in 2016. That mark tied the second most nominations in history as well, behind only Michael Jackson, who received 12 nominations in 1984.
