WATCH: Another Gaza-bound aid boat hit by drone strike

An investigation is underway after another vessel in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) fleet was struck by a drone.

Organisers confirmed the attack on Tuesday, 9 September, targeting the Alma, sailing under the British flag.

The vessel sustained fire damage to its top deck, but all crew and passengers were reported safe.

SECOND STRIKE ON GAZA-BOUND BOATS

This marks the second strike in as many days. The incident follows a similar strike a day earlier, on Monday, 8 September, when the GSF’s family boat, sailing under a Portuguese flag, was also hit.

Despite the risks, the GSF insists it will push forward with its mission to deliver aid materials to Gaza. The organisers have vowed to continue their mission to peacefully break the blockade on Gaza.

“These repeated attacks come during intensified Israeli aggression on Palestinians in Gaza and are an orchestrated attempt to distract and derail our mission,” the organisers said in a statement.

According to reports, the attack involved a drone flying without lights, which dropped a device that set the boat’s deck ablaze. It is suspected an incendiary grenade, wrapped in fuel-soaked plastic materials, was used.

STEERING COMMITTEE NOT DETERRED

A steering committee member aboard the Alma stressed the group’s determination to assist those in Palestine.

“We will set sail because we know it’s in the hearts and minds of the majority of people on this planet – they cannot stand children being starved to death, hospitals being bombed, schools being bombed. That’s why we must continue. We will not stop.”
