When is Coronation Street on again as pivotal episode is dropped from schedule?

Coronation Street fans are going to have to wait a few days longer for the fallout of Monday night’s huge twist, as the ITV soap has been taken off air this evening.

Viewers are still reeling from the last episode of the Manchester-based soap, which saw Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) rushed to hospital after a hit and run, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) announce her pregnancy and Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) return from the dead.

Just an average Monday night on the cobbles.

It was a dramatic 18th birthday for Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin), who witnessed the stolen car smashing into Tyrone, and that’s without knowing that her dead mum made an appearance.

Poor Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) got the fright of her life when she expected fiancé Carla Connor (Alison King) to walk in, only to come face to face with a ghost.

Unfortunately, fans have a few more days to wait to find out how Lisa will react to Becky’s resurrection, and find out the truth about Becky’s absence all these years.

When is Coronation Street on again?

Coronation Street will be back on screens at the usual time of 8pm on ITV1 on Friday, September 12.

It will also be available to watch on ITVX from 7am the same day.

It is set to be a jam-packed episode, as Carla returns to No.6 to find Lisa demanding answers from Becky.

Elsewhere, Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) assures George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) that he’s mistaken when the undertaker reveals that he saw him driving the car that knocked down Tyrone.

When Dylan then calls Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), he is forced to come clean to Abi Webster (Sally Carman) about Dylan and Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) working for him.

With David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) still stunned after Shona’s pregnancy admission, will they be able to keep the secret under wraps?

Thankfully, schedules return to normal next week, with viewers set to get their usual three hour-long instalments on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and there is no sign of the drama slowing down.

Still reeling from the bombshell that her wife is still alive, Lisa confronts DI Costello (Daon Bruni) demanding answers.

Elsewhere, Dylan, Brody and Carl work hard to cover their tracks, while there is fear for Tyrone when he wakes up unable to feel his legs. Will he be okay, and will he get justice?

Why has Coronation Street been dropped from schedules?

Coronation Street has been dropped from schedules tonight as ITV instead airs the National Television Awards.

The NTAs celebrate all things television, highlighting some of the best work of the year. Countless stars will hit the red carpet ahead of the ceremony, which is held in London, including some familiar faces from our favourite soaps.

Coronation Street, Casualty, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks are all nominated for the coveted Best Serial Drama award after a dramatic year for all five soaps.

Corrie’s Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster) and Jack P Shepherd (David Platt), EastEnders’ Jacqueline Jossa (Lauren Branning) and Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell) and Emmerdale’s Eden Taylor-Draper (Belle Dingle) are all nominated for Serial Drama Performance.

Permanent schedule changes for ITV soaps

ITV are reducing Coronation Street and Emmerdale’s weekly output in 2026, it has been confirmed.

Following audience research, bosses have concluded that 30 minute episodes attracted higher audience figures throughout 2024, and as a result, a new broadcast pattern will be adopted from January.

This means that Emmerdale will air Monday to Friday from 8pm, with Coronation Street following on the same days at 8:30pm in what has been dubbed as a ‘soap power hour.’

Consequently, both soaps are cutting one episode per week.

The changes will be marked with a special crossover episode between both soaps, though details are being kept tightly under wraps.
