Kendra Licari says she had ‘fun’ filming Unknown Number and ‘loved’ talking about her crimes

Kendra Licari seemed to have a pretty good time whilst filming Unknown Number: The High School Catfish. Yep, she seemingly had a blast talking about the grotesque text messages she sent to her very own daughter when she cyber bullied her for over a year. A strange admission, sure.

During Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, we learned that a then 13-year-old Lauryn Licari had been receiving a barrage of messages from an unknown number. They were often horrible about her looks, threatened her, and told her to take her own life. There were highly sexualised messages about her boyfriend Owen, who was also underage at the time. In the twist nobody saw coming, the messages had been sent by Lauryn’s own mother.

The creator of the Netflix has show has since spoken out about what it was like to film with Kendra Licari. In the film, she sat and spoke of her “worry” for her daughter when the first messages came in, before the doc switched, and told us she’d been sending them all along. It was jarring to say the least.

The messages landed Kendra with a prison sentence, and she’s now on parole. But, you might be shocked to know she seemed to enjoy the experience of talking about her horrific crimes.

Whilst director Skye Borgman said Kendra appeared “remorseful” over what she did, she added Kendra appeared “nervous” to speak out. But, it was said Kendra “loved” the experience in the end, and described being in a Netflix show as “fun”.

Borgman said: “[Kendra] was nervous about going on camera, because just sitting down and telling your story is a nerve-racking thing sometimes. But she was so great, and she actually ended up really loving the experience. At the end of it, she said it was kind of fun. She laughed about things, and I think it was really an opportunity for her to think about things a little bit more in depth. Every time I would ask a question, she would really have to think about some things, and I think that was really good for her.”

She added: “Kendra is a little bit of an enigma. I think that she had a lot of time to think about what she did. She was in therapy when she was incarcerated, and I believe that she’s still seeing a therapist. She has put thought into what she did. I don’t know that she’s fully realised or recognised what it was that she did or why she did it. I guess only Kendra could really answer that.”
